About Us

Welcome to the Bamboo Art Workshop.
Experience the art of bamboo paper firsthand.

We continue to
pioneer next-generation products

Our factory is located on the banks of the Fuchun River in beautiful Hangzhou. Bamboo papermaking dates back over a thousand years, dating back to the Southern Song Dynasty. Our Yuanshu Paper brand was founded in 1539 during the Jiaqing reign of the Ming Dynasty, making it the only remaining time-honored company in China to continue this tradition.

We are committed to cooperating with people who create calligraphy and painting, ancient book restoration, home decoration, and art creation.

Continuous expansion and rapid development

We are a full-process production facility for traditional Fuyang bamboo paper, currently a protected cultural relic in Hangzhou.

In 2015, we expanded to Beijing, and in 2016, we launched a door-to-door experience store to promote the craft and culture of papermaking. We have earned professional recognition and established long-term partnerships with research institutions, universities, and cultural organizations, including the National Museum, the National Library, the Palace Museum, the School of Materials Science and Technology of Beijing Forestry University, the Xiling Seal Society, the National Academy of Painting, and Rongbaozhai. Our commitment to traditional papermaking has earned us a firm following, becoming a leader in the traditional papermaking industry.

In 2022, we began to create China's own brand of traditional paper and opened brand stores in Japan to let overseas people know that China has good traditional paper.

Bamboo paper craft passed down from generation to generation

Successor Li Far

The current inheritor of the brand workshop is Li Fer. According to the Li Family Genealogy, the Li family's ancestor was Li Yu, a Song Dynasty descendant of Li Yu of the Southern Tang Dynasty. The Li family moved here during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, and subsequent generations have settled here. Li Fer explains that his ancestors created the "Yu" brand of paper during the Jiaqing period of the Ming Dynasty, a practice that continued until the 1950s. The current workshop was founded in the mid-to-late Qing Dynasty and passed down to his father's generation. Over time, it underwent several renovations and expansions to reach its current size. It became a cooperative and collectively owned in the 1950s. In the 1960s, it produced special tribute paper for the State Council and paper specifically for Japanese diplomatic purposes.

2006 National Intangible Cultural Heritage

In May 2006, the State Council issued Document No. 16 (Guofa (2006)), approving the Ministry of Culture's first list of 518 national intangible cultural heritage items. Fuyang's bamboo papermaking craft was listed at number 421, officially earning it national heritage status.
